Okay, I am the first to admit.... I love going to the kids sporting events. But, the last two Saturdays have been a true test of "How much do you love me mom?" The swim season is going great. As a freshman, Ryan is swimming A LOT and we couldn't be happier. The weekday meets are great -- you are in and out in 2 hours tops, you have good seats, and it is a good social hour with all the parents. However, the Saturday meets, are a bit different.
Last Saturday was the City Relay Meet. Ray was in UT and I went and

sat for 5 hours enjoying this blessed event. Little did I know that I would be wishing to repeat that day instead of the day we had yesterday.
It was the Nike Invitational at the University of Arizona. Not everyone was picked to swim, and out of those that went, not everyone got to swim in the maximum 4 events. But of course, just our luck Ryan did. So, we had him up and ready to go on the bus with the team at 5:30 am. Ray and

I made the trek to Tucson, later that morning and met up with the other 1100 swimmers that day. There were wall to wall tents outside the stadium which housed each team. As luck would have it, Ryan swam in event #1 and event #20 (the last event) and a couple in between so we were parked there for 7 HOURS!!! Each event had at least 15 to 20 heats, so you can only imagine. You know how it is with swimming -- you are there 7 hours and your kids swims for 6 minutes total. Ray has become a true swimmers dad with the stopwatch around his neck, making sure to get Ryans split times, and dutifully notating them on the program so that Ryan can later record them on his swimming log. And let me remind you, it is Arizona and while the rest of the world is enjoying fall like weather, we are cheering in the fact that it has dropped to 100 degrees.
All and all however, it was a fun day that included some yummy well deserved mexican food when we were done. Ryan did really well, and finished in the top third in all of his events. The day ended when Ryan arrived b

ack home on the bus around 10:00 pm that night. And I said to myself, I wouldn't have missed it for the world, and what luck, he is only a freshman and we have 3 more years to go!!!

Holy cow. 7 hours? Yeah, I don't know if I could do that! You guys are such great parents to your kids.
Oh, and the name we're pretty decided on is Mya. Can't agree on a middle name yet though.
wow! that is love! although i could see myself basking in the only 99 degree september weather, sitting on bleachers soaking up the sun, listening to an ipod, drinking a cold diet pepsi, reading a good book maybe.... just like i could BEFORE i had children! hmmmm anyone want to watch emmy for ryan's next meet? ;)
I wish I could swim as well as Ryan does! He has true potential and talent in swimming! He makes it look so easy.
ohhh i know- club sports. synchro is even worse. fri night all day sat and sometimes sunday. you start thinking about it and realize you probably only saw your child swim less than 15 min of that 7 hours.
