First High School Meet

Yesterday was our first High School Swim Meet. We did not really know what to expect. When Ryan left for school that morning, he still didn't even know what he was going to swim. He knew he would be swimming, but just not what. When we got there we were so surprised to find out that he was swimming 4 events and as a 9th grader, that is pretty amazing. He started off swimming the backstroke leg of the 200 Medley relay, which they took 3rd in. Backstroke is 1st, and they were in 1st place at the end of his leg, then a few minutes later he was up swimming the 200 IM, which he took 2nd place in. He came on strong at the end and pulled closer but lost by about 3 strokes. He had a little break,(and I mean little) and then the was up again for the 500 free. For those that don't want to do the math in your head -- that is 20 laps. They have to have a counter in the water to help them keep track. He got 2nd place in that event and made it look easy. Then he was up again for a 400 free relay each leg swimming 100 yards (4 laps) and they got 1st. It was the greatest relay, they really won by a lot.
After the meet, one of the other 9th graders dads took a bunch of the boys to CiCi's pizza where Ryan said that they could not make the pizza's fast enough for them to keep up eating. I guess -- I would say that they lost money on their group. I am sure that they were STARVING after all that swimming.

So, now, every Thursday and Saturdays until the middle of November we can be found at the pool, cheering on the Red Mountain Lions.
