As a Young Women Leader, I always stress over the "big programs" each year, being New Beginnings and YW In Excellence. We always strive to make these a special event, and have them be exciting so it is just not "coming to hear a night of talks". (I HATE those) We have done some great ones, for example, "A Night at the Movies", "A Star Within You", "A Night in the Museum" (a personal favorite), "Sailing to Safe Harbor" -- they all have a particular theme, and then we let our creative juices run wild. This year, I came up with the theme, MISSION:POSSIBLE for YW In Excellence. It really turned out great! We had the secret agents come, perform a great skit and give each girl a mission -- they completed a personal progress goal that night taught by the young women who have already received their award. We had all of the things the girls had done, displayed in briefcases, and only black, white and red refreshments were allowed.... It was a fantastic evening.
A lot of times, when I am doing all of this, I wonder.... why I am knocking myself out? Making the invitations perfect, decorating up the wahzoo, and making it such a special night, and then I think, we need to do these types of things a couple of times a year with all the "fluff" attached. These girls are bombarded daily with the "fluff" that Satan has in the world for them. We need a little "fluff" sometimes to invite the spirit and help us remember what is important in life. Soooo Cool! You need to move over here so my girls can have that! No, our YW leaders are great too! Our YW in excellence is next week. The stake just did a "Above and Beyond" thing for the girls who have earned their yw award this year and Shannon got to go. They did a great job. They did a cute slide show with all the girls and comments from their families. (I'll take primary choister anyday, small and simple) :)
