Yesterday marked the end of the 2009 High School Swim Season. It is a bittersweet moment. It is a stressful time for Ryan.... however it is so fun for us to watch him swim, while hanging with all the parents and just having fun in the stands. (You have to do something to pass the time, you are there for 7 hours and your kid swims 3 minutes)
Ryan made it to state. He was fortunate to make it in 4 events. (the maximum) He swam the 200 IM, 100 Backstroke, 200 Free Relay, and 400 Free Relay. He swam the backstroke leg of the Medly Relay all season, but just before regionals -- coach scrapped all that were on that relay and put Ryan on the Freestyle relays to help them get to the finals..... which they did in both relays. He swam both days of state... quite an accomplishment as a sophomore. He ended up 14th in the IM and 13th in the backstroke. The backstroke race was so close... places 9-15 were only seperated by a tenth of a second. Unfortunately -- Ryan had the shortest arms. We keep reminding him that he kept getting personal bests every time he swam, and that he was swimming against mostly seniors.
It was a great year.... Here are a few pictures to prove it.
