Up the mountain we headed.... to cooler temps, to sleep in tents, to have fun times, to allow friendships to grow, and last but not least, strengthen our testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Our 2009 Alta Mesa Stake Youth Conference was last week -- It was so much fun! Eventhough there was no running water, we used porta-potties, and slept in tents, it really wasn't all that bad! The entire weekend was based on the Book of Mormon. Our activities, our devotionals, our firesides.

Thursday we set up camp and just "chilled". In the evening was the variety show -- the synchro boys made an encore performance, Hannah Montana performed, and many others! The evening ended with a dance! We all danced and were silly until we could hardly stand it!

Friday was filled with activities.... team building games in the morning, and super activities in the afternoon, which included zip lines, the flying squirrel, rifle shooting, hatchet throwing, and a service project. Everyone LOVEd the zip line and of course the flying squirrel. What is it about the thrill of dangling through the air on a rope? Really?

Friday evening was the highlight of the weekend with a fireside depicting Nephi's Dream from the Book of Mormon. We went through the woods holding to a rod of iron. We stopped at 4 stations, the great and spacious building, the filthy river, the mists of darkness, and finally the tree of life. It was very emotional and the youth all were touched. We had tempters trying to pull the youth off of the rod. If they ever did let go, they were taken to the back where they had to briefly have a chat with the Bishop. We had 2 youth who "accidently" left the rod. It was cool to see how everyone pulled together to keep everyone on the rod. The tree of life was beautiful and we were all able to go and partake of the fruit.... it was very powerful and such a testimony builder for everyone who participated. Afterwards, we were able to sit in the woods in the dark with our Bishop and youth and discuss the evening. We have the greatest Bishop who truly loves each of the youth and wants the very best for them. It was fantastic!

I love the youth of the Fairway Groves Ward! They are what makes it all worthwhile in serving in Young Womens. We have so much fun together! Another weekend.... well spent!
